The art of pottery has been practised in Soufflenheim since the Bronze Age (1000 BC). This tradition has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.

This ancestral art has contributed to the development and influence of Alsace's culinary tradition, with dishes such as Baeckeoffe, Choucroute, Kougelhopf, Escargots and Tartes Flambées.

The pottery is made from Soufflenheim clay, also known as loam, which has recognised culinary and fireproof qualities.

It is extracted from the Haguenau forest which borders Soufflenheim.

This exceptional clay is difficult to extract, requiring a great deal of effort and representing a definite cost.

This is why most Soufflenheim potters have given up using it and replaced it with a pre-conditioned material, mainly imported, which is easier and cheaper to work.

However, the refractory (alumina naturally present) and culinary qualities of Soufflenheim clay are unique, and we can offer you a wide range of Soufflenheim pottery using this clay.

It can be recognised by its yellowish tinge after firing and its slight irregularities on the surface.

The unglazed parts (inside the pottery) can be rough.

The clay is fired at over 1000° and shaped with love using precise manual skills, guaranteeing you the highest quality pottery.

Our ancestors knew how to tame this material, and we're carrying on their traditions!

Made from clay in the Soufflenheim workshops, the pottery is worked and painted by hand. With their Bleu de Soufflenheim, Bleu Pinceau and Rouge colours, the Baeckeoffe Terrines, Kougelhopf Moulds and other dishes in the Collection are sure to please everyone.
